Ceva and the SOS project
The Stamp Out Sleeping sickness (SOS) campaign is a public private partnership launched in Kampala in Uganda in October 2006. This partnership was formed in response to an emergency situation in a number of districts in Northern Uganda where the two strains of Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) - also known as "sleeping sickness"- threaten to converge. The SOS programme has to date sponsored the treatment of 250 000 cattle in the five districts of Apac, Dokolo, Kaberamaido, Lira and Amolatar, “cleaning” the animals of infection by injecting a single trypanocidal drug treatment. In order to prevent re-infention, this is followed by a restricted application spray that contains an insecticide and that is repeatedly applied on the legs and belly of cows, where tsetse flies like to feed.
The SOS initiative has been very successful in:
- Preventing the convergence of the two forms of sleeping sickness.
- Reducing the cases of sleeping sickness in the area of treatment.
- Creating employment by providing veterinary products and services
- Improving the health and livelihood of cattle and people in the SOS area.

Ceva and GALVmed
An alliance between Ceva Santé Animale, the international community, civil society and researchers are making a significant difference to the lives of poor people. Ceva has committed to becoming an active member of GALVmed, a not-for-profit global alliance of public, private and government partners presently funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Ceva’s presence in developing countries and the company’s technical know-how, especially in tropical veterinary medicine, will contribute towards this alliance, which aims to protect livestock and save human lives by making livestock vaccines, diagnostics and medicine accessible and affordable to even the most impoverished livestock owners.

Ceva and horses
Ceva has chosen to direct its corporate sponsorship efforts to the equine world, a sporting area that we believe epitomises the bond between humans and animals. We have partnerships with highly successful riders such as Stephan Lafouge and Valérie Salles, as well as providing some veterinary support for their horses.
